Sampling.. Madonna’s “Hung Up”.

Howdy y’all,

So I was in a cafe in Thailand and heard the Abba song “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)”, it also reminded me of the 2005 Madonna song “Hung up” featured below.

Given i saw a documentary on Madonna on the plane to Thailand, I thought I would share the song. It was written and produced in collaboration with Stuart Price, and released as the first single from her tenth studio album, Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005).

It got me thinking about how sampling can be used in productions. You have to see a vision of a future song, with the song you are sampling. There are legal implications of course, and Madonna sought permission to use the sample, as should everyone. But it really is phenomenal how one piece of one song can be turned into something of quite a different song.

How do you sample? What are your favourite songs that have used samples?

Here is the song below.

Cheers,
Elton.
