Elton Smith interview with ElectroWow music blog.

Hey guys,

I recently did a interview with Erik from Electro Wow and his cool blog.

You can find it here

If you don’t want to go there i have added the interview here for your pleasure.

Enjoy!

Elton Smith is a DJ/Producer from Melbourne, Australia. His debut album ‘Waiting Around Here’ was released in February and it has totally caught my attention! His music is a mixture of different genres such as Deep House, Bass House, Future House and more… There’s no better way to understand his hopes, ideals, and personality with the interview below!

1 – Tell us a bit about yourself, your name, age, where you’re from and an interesting fact if you like…

Sure thing. Thanks for having me on the blog by the way. My name is Elton Smith, the same as my artist name. I can tell you one interesting fact. I am a physiotherapist. So I can treat your neck should it suffer from overuse during a DJ set.

2 – What were your main inspirations in creating your debut album ‘Waiting Around Here’?

I actually spent a fair bit of time travelling South East Asia in 2014/15 including Thailand and Cambodia. I had a bit of time to think about life and music. I met a few people along the way who encouraged me to pursue something big. So it all started from there. I had time to think, plan and make music and get some forward momentum running through 2015.

3 – Are there any plans to release a single from ‘Waiting Around Here’?

The single “Waiting Around Here” will come out as a single with a club mix and a remix package. We have some pretty big names lined up but cannot release the names just yet.

4 – What genres of music do you produce? What’s your favorite?

I have dabbled a lot in different styles. I produce with Adrian Butinar under A+E and we have made Nu Disco, Deep, Progressive, Trance and Future Bass.

For my solo projects, I tend to make Deep House. I also like working with vocals.

5 – How is the electronic music scene and raves in Melbourne?

I have focused a lot on my production recently which has meant less time for socialising. There are subcultures of the dance music community who all run great events and of course major festivals. The major festivals such as Stereosonic are huge, as you would expect

6 – What is your opinion on why electronic music has become increasingly more popular over the past few years?

With the advent of social media there is a much wider scope to expose it a far wider audience. It builds energy and momentum. Once it started appearing on the radio regularly people soon realized it was cool. The digital revolution is here.

7 – What first got you interested in becoming a music producer?

Going clubbing in London was a huge inspiration. I heard Seb Fontaine drop “Love Story” by Layo and Bushwacka. I thought, “What is he doing?, I have to learn about this”. So I went and bought myself some gear the next week.

8 – Have you ever made any contact with big time people in the industry?

We have some big names remixing some of my songs so keep your ears open and on standby.

9 – What’s one tip would you give to other aspiring music producers?

Have fun. And my number one tip: Finish songs, no matter how bad they may sound initially. Making music is about exactly that, not being satisfied with the latest bit of software or plugin. Know your equipment inside out and you will start to get much better results.

10 – What accomplishments are you most proud of?

Playing at Thailand’s Full Moon Party to 20 thousand people. I visualized this 7 years previously when I first visited the Island. Literally a dream come true.

Oh yeah, and my song “La Fiesta” was chosen as the number one song on an internet radio battle (@radiobattle1) by Kiss FM Melbourne against OOG Netherlands. To over 900,000 listeners. That was cool.
